The week the BCMN delegation is gathering at Classical:NEXT to hold meetings in the vibrant environment and meet other representatives in the classical music field. The aim is to expand the network by establishing meaningful longterm partnerships.
The network's roots also lie in Classical:NEXT. The idea to create a network between the Baltic states had been floating in the air, but the first concrete steps were taken when the Chairman of Lithuanian Composers' Union Mykolas Natalevičius met Madli-Liis Parts at the Estonian music stand in 2018. Madli-Liis Parts, Music Advisor to the Estonian Ministry of Culture suggested to gather at the ISCM World Music Days 2019 in Tallinn where the first BCMN meeting took place. As a result, the Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian Composers’ Unions launched a new festival Baltic Music Days, a contemporary music event, which will start to rotate annually between all 3 Baltic states. In 2021, Estonia hosted the first episode which was held online. This year’s festival will be hosted in Kaunas - European Capital of Culture, November 2022.
